Mijn inspiratiebron

is stromend water en wat daarmee samenhangt. Maar de magie van haar eeuwige,  tijdloze ritme en beweging werd uiteindelijk hoofdthema. De abstracte beeldvorming die daaruit voortvloeit moet adem bevatten, de toeschouwer een gevoel van ruimte en vrijheid geven. Ik werk met olieverf op doek, en met gouache of grafiek op papier.

Een schilderij ontstaat zonder vooropgezet plan. Meestal bestaat het uit meerdere bewegingen van streken en lijnen – schrapen, opnieuw lijnen trekken – drogen en weer over bestaande verflagen heen. Een soms eindeloos lijkend proces dat – als het lukt - geleidelijk een associatie met ritme en beweging ontvouwt.

 In mijn werk op papier probeer ik in een paar lijnen de essentie van wat me voor ogen staat weer te geven.  Dat vraagt veel papier, een grote prullenbak, `Ausdauer’, en een scherpe blik.

En: wachten tot dat ene blad eruit springt…

My sources of inspiration

are water movements and their surrounding life. The magic of water’s everlasting rhythm and movement has become my main theme. The abstract result should be able to breathe, to give the onlooker a sense of space and freedom. I work in oils on canvas or in gouache and graphics on paper.

My paintings develop without a pre-concept plan. They are built up in movements of strokes and lines – scraped away, covered with new ones –dried and partly worked on afresh. A seemingly endless process which gradually – if luck would have it – unfolds an association with rhythm and movement.

Work on paper is different: I try to evoke the essence of what should be expressed ‘in one go’ as it were. It demands a lot of paper, a large bin, perseverance, and a sharp eye.

And: patience until one sheet catches the attention …
